+ ASHRAE Energy Audits and the difference between levels 1, 2, and 3
+ LEED for existing buildings
+ Building benchmarking
+ Rebate programs including ComEd’s “Smart Ideas” program
+ Piping and fan system modernization
These and other ideas will be covered by our three knowledgeable presenters. Michael Kuk, Director of Technical Services for Sieben Energy Associates, has 20 years of experience performing energy audits, building commissioning, LEED consulting, and other energy and sustainability services. He is a past president of the Illinois Chapter, and is active in local and national ASHRAE technical committees. Mike is an ASHRAE-certified Commissioning Process Management Provider (CPMP), an ASHRAE-certified Operations and Performance Management Professional (OPMP), and LEED accredited professional. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Tate Walker is passionate about green buildings and sustainable design. As an architect and LEED Accredited Professional, he knows the value of climate-specific, sustainable design that enhances our environment. At the Energy Center, Tate provides building design assistance and education for our commercial high performance building initiatives. He is the Program Manager for ComEd Smart Ideas For Your Business New Construction program. He also serves as Vice President of the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance, and on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Energy and Atmosphere Technical Advisory Group.
Dan Watkins, Sales Engineer with Bornquist, Inc., specializes in pumping solutions for chilled and hot water systems with a focus on energy-saving strategies. At our dinner meeting, after the seminar, we’ll welcome Don McLauchlan, another Illinois Chapter member who will talk about new and innovative energy-saving ideas built into the new Information Common Building at the Chicago lakeshore campus of Loyola University. The LEED Silver project features a green roof, radiant ceiling and automatic controls that (among other things) adjust window shades as the sun crosses overhead to prevent idrect radiation while minimizing loss of natural light. This 2008 winner of the Chapter’s Excellence in Engineering Award went on to earn 1st place in the Society’s international competition.
Donald J. McLauchlan, P.E., C.E.M., LEED AP, is principal of Elara Energy Services, Inc. Don brings over 30 years of experience in MEP design, construction and commissioning. He is a licensed professional engineer, certified energy manager and LEED accredited professional. Don has authored several technical articles for trade journals and has been a speaker at numerous industry conferences. He has served as a jurist for the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance for the last three years. Don holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering (BSME) from University of Illinois at Chicago.
